Amanda Kessel (Madison, Wis.) gave the U.S. a 3-0 advantage when she swooped in and knocked a rebound over Wallner at 11:19.

The Americans extended their lead to 5-0 in the middle frame on goals by Monique Lamoureux (Grand Forks, N.D.) and Megan Bozek (Buffalo Grove, Ill.). Lamoureux scored on a shot just inside the left circle at 5:41 before Bozek ripped a slapshot through Wallner's five-hole at 12:17.
